Notebook, 1864-1868.

Notebook of Acting Master's Mate, March 15, 1864-Jan. 1, 1866, while serving on the Benton, an ironclad steamer. Included are: lists of jobs, guncrew members, duty rosters, drawings of flag signals and what they mean, accounts, crew routines, lists of arms, miscellaneous, and doodle marks. A list of clothing issued to him, 1866-1867, and a list of his correspondents, 1868, are also in the notebook. Information about the Benton (copies) is also included.

Evans served as Acting Master's Mate on the Benton, an ironclad steamer, 1864-1868. He is not listed in the Michigan Soldiers and Sailors Index.
